That is certainly the question.
I love the player, but wow, that's a lot of money. I would love to say, "Pay the Man!" but I just cannot get past the fact that he will be making a $25 million hit on the payroll next year. Ugh... I hate money and sports. I wish you could just depend on stars staying put until the fire is gone.
Seems like Suh is going to be Jack Morris all over again. If you let him go, he could haunt you for years. Imagine him pounding the way through the line to drill Stafford into the turf. I shutter at the thought.
The mock drafts tell us that the Lions are planning to replace him with a rookie. Lord help us.
Look at the Colts. Freeney was dominant. He and Mathis were stellar together. BUT... the Colts kept going without them. Although they never did replace them with remotely the same talent, they still make the playoffs and threaten to make a run for it. But they can't stop the run. They can't pressure the QB. They are going nowhere. They need a Suh.
So... it scares me to think about it, but the Lions might need to just pay the man. Keep him here and keep him happy. Just pay the man. Find rookies to put behind him and around him, but keep him.
A skewed perspective of sports from a locally biased fan of almost all sports. Hear me rant, get the point I'm trying to make. I live in Indianapolis, but I grew up with the Freep in my hand every morning. I love Detroit sports, and I want to share.

Its been a while. But good to be back.
Let me ramble about the Tigers.
But first, I must address the obvious. Where have I been since my last post?
So its been a while since I posted. Years actually. I have had a lot going on in my life. Divorce. That says a lot right there. But I am lucky enough to find love for a second time in my life. My new wife is keeping me busy in a very good way! My kids, oh my... With one of my children now in college, I swear I never get to see her enough. She was on a mission in Kenya the summer after her junior year and the following year she visited Rome, Greece and Turkey in the summer! Now she is in college and starting her own life. My son keeps me busy in other ways. I love spending time with him, we have so much in common, but so little in interests. I share sports stuff with him like he cares and he shares game stories with me like I care. Ha... sounds wierd, but I love the guy! I love spending time with both of them so much that I needed to take a break from my own hobbies to enjoy them while the are still in my house!
Anyway... back to sports. My wife is not a real sports fan but she is slowly starting to mirror my affection for the Tigers. Although she is still reeling from Prince departing. She bought some pretty cool Lions clothes for herself too! I am converting her from an Indianapolis-born high-school cheerleader to a fan of the great blue north! No Colts crap in this house!
We are planning our summer vacations around the Tigers schedule since they will be visiting Great American in Cincy, Wrigley in Chicago and Busch in St. Louis, all within a day trip of Indy! SO DIFFERENT from last year!
So... Here we are, three days from Spring Training.
Although I think the Tigers will miss Scherzer and Porcello bigtime, I still like the chances in front of us. I still think KC is a step below and I do not see the Twins, Sox, or Indians being a big threat.
I am excited to have Cespedes. Of course, I was excited when Fielder came in too a few years ago! Lets hope this experiment goes better. You could argue that the Tigers have the most exciting batting lineup in all of baseball if they can all stay healthy. I am really feeling positive about this years outlook.
I think the pitching took an overall step forward. Last years bullpen could not have been more disappointing. Or, maybe I am wrong. Who knows. Lets just hope for the best. Verlander could be back to his old self. Price should be stellar. Sanchez should be on point as usual, and I have my hopes up for Simon and Greene. The bullpen looks better, but who knows until you see it happen.
Injuries worry me. Miggy, Justin, Victor, Rajai, Jokaim, Joel, Jose, & Bruce just to name a few that are recovering from major stuff. I like the depth in the outfield and in the infield.
Anything is fun to talk about when you are hours away from opening up spring training!
